History of Blackjack
Blackjack wasn't invented at any one time by any one person. There were games very similar to Blackjack that were played in France during the 1700's. The game traveled to North America and it spread across the continent. When gambling became legal in Nevada in 1931 gaming houses tried to offer special bonuses to get players to the tables to play and make the game more popular. The game was called 21 and if the players hand consisted of the ace of spades and a black jack (either the jack of spades or clubs) this bonus paid out 10 to1. |
Objective
The objective of Blackjack is to get as close to 21 as possible without going over 21. If you do go over 21 you go bust and lose your bet. The dealer can also go bust when trying to beat the players hand. In Blackjack the Ace is a really special card as its value can either be 11 or 1. It's great to have an ace because if the player would go bust with the Ace being the value of 11 it can rather be considered as a 1. All cards from 2-10 are worth their face value. Jacks, Queens and Kings are all worth 10. |
