Blues Boss Tips Hazard to match Zola
Chelsea boss, Roberto Di Matteo, believes that new signing, Eden Hazard, has the ability to go on to emulate the achievements of Blues legend, Gianfranco Zola.
Zola was named as one of the club’s players of the century, thanks to his exploits during his seven-year spell at Stamford Bridge, and has even previously been spoken about as a potential future manager of the club, due to owner Roman Abramovich’s desire to see his side play open and attacking football.
The last few months have seen somewhat of a transformation at Chelsea, as, after years of disciplined and structured football, the club have opted to bring in a number of exciting youngsters, which looks set to change the Blues traditional style.
Of all these, Hazard is appears to be the most talented, and made an immediate impact in the league, setting-up the opener and winning a penalty during Sunday’s 2-0 win at Wigan.
The Blues are currently 4/1 to claim the Premier League crown in the latest odds.
After guiding his side to the Champions League title last May, Di Matteo has been the man charged with bringing attacking football to the Bridge, and the Italian believes his new starlet has the ability to emulate the achievements of his great friend, Zola.
"It's difficult to compare players. Gianfranco was a wonderful talent, an artist I would say," he said. "Eden might become an artist as well. He had a good start, but it is one game out of 38 in the league.
"It certainly gives him and the others confidence, starting with a new club like that. It was a pleasant day for him.
"He's a talented man, a talented young boy. We'll have to see how he grows into a man, and how quickly he will be an important player for Chelsea," he added.
